Digital Image Inpainting using Finite Volume approach and the Navier- Stokes Equations

چکیده
This paper presents a new numerical method for image inpainting based on the vorticity stream function formulation of the Navier-Stokes Equations. The method employs a finite volume discretization and a Runge-Kutta time stepping scheme with dissipative terms. A stability analysis of the proposed numerical method has been performed to determine the maximum allowable time step for which the computation will be stable. It is shown that the expression for the maximum time step contains terms that are functions of the image isophote gradient and curvature. The method has been implemented for a number of grey level and colored images and the results indicate that the method is effective in terms of solution quality and computational efficiency. Navier-Stokes, Fluid Dynamics, and Image and Video Inpainting
Image inpainting involves filling in part of an image or video using information from the surrounding area. Applications include the restoration of damaged photographs and movies and the removal of selected objects. In this paper, we introduce a class of automated methods for digital inpainting. The approach uses ideas from classical fluid dynamics to propagate isophote lines continuously from ...

In 2001, Bertalmio, et. al. drew an analogy between the image intensity function for the image inpainting problem and the stream function in a two-dimensional (2D) incompressible fluid. An approximate solution to the inpainting problem is obtained by numerically approximating the steady state solution of the 2D NSE vorticity transport equation, and simultaneously solving the Poisson problem bet...

متن کاملImage Inpainting Using a TV-Stokes Equation
Based on some geometrical considerations, we propose a two-step method to do digital image inpainting. In the first step, we try to propagate the isophote directions into the inpainting domain. An energy minimization model combined with the zero divergence condition is used to get a nonlinear Stokes equation. Once the isophote directions are constructed, an image is restored to fit the construc...

The thin-layer Navier-Stokes equations are solved for two complete missile configurations on an IBM 3090-200 vectro-facility supercomputer. The conservation form of the three-dimensional equations, written in generalized coordinates, are finite differenced and solved on a body-fitted curvilinear grid system developed in conjunction with the flowfield solver. The numerical procedure is based on ...
